Tomato Sun Gold Hybrid (Cherry) - 1 Pkt. (30 seeds)

"Rapidly becoming the most popular cherry tomato of all time an amazing feat for a non-red variety. But when you taste the sweet/tart flavor you'll instantly know why. The beautiful golden-orange fruits are borne in large clusters. The flavor develops early, so this little tomato is great for snacking a week before fully mature, when it becomes very sweet and delicious. Ready to hrvest in 65 days.

"The Sun Gold hybrid tomato should be heralded as one of the best tomatoes to grow. Whether you are a novice or hold a PhD in botany, this hybrid is extremely easy to grow compared to other tomatoes. The plant matures in about two months to produce buckets and buckets of super sweet little orange tomatoes. The disease resistance is adequate so you won't have to many problems. I highly recommend this tomato."

Very disappointing :(, September 12, 2009
Submitted by Ragu from Boston
"The most popular cherry tomato of all time?
My tomatoes were just smaller than golf balls, some were yellow-orange and others were a deep red, all on the same vine. They had a mushy texture and no taste. At best they were suitable for a food fight."

NOT Sun Gold plants, August 1, 2009
Submitted by chablis040 from Marysville, OH
"I purchased six Sun Gold plants, however when they began fruiting, it was obvious that the plants were not Sun Gold. I've grown Sun Gold for the past several years, and am very familiar with the best-tasting tomato of all time :-) But the "Sun Gold" plants from Burpee produced fruits that were golf-ball size (not cherry tomato size), extremely thick-fleshed with few seeds, extremely dry - not juicy, tasteless and turned RED on the vine (not deep orange....RED). Be careful when purchasing these plants - you might not end up with what you intended to purchase."

Plants are gorgeous!, May 18, 2009
Submitted by Kimba from Sandown, NH
"This is the first time I have ordered PLANTS from Burpee. They arrived 3 days ago. I was stunned by how well these were packaged. The plants were in tip-top condition. They were still moist, and none had broken limbs. The packaging they ship these in is just ingenious.
Looking forward to putting these plants in the garden and seeing what kind of yield I get.
I thought the plants were a good size, not huge, but definately healthy. I'll take a healthy plant over a huge plant any day!"

Best cherry tomato!, April 24, 2009
Submitted by jinxyrocks from Austin, TX (Zone 8)
"In fact Sun Gold may be my favorite tomato of any kind! I had one Sun Gold plant in my very first year of gardening and it was so massive that I could not find a cage big enough to hold it. It produced very prolifically and kept on going until November. The taste of the tomatoes is excellent. I would recommend this plant to anyone and everyone!"

My Favorite Tomato!!, January 7, 2009

"The Sun Gold are almost like eating tomato candy!! My husband whose typically hates tomates will even eat these raw. I love adding these to my salsa to give it a little extra sweetness. I live in zone 6 and these outproduce all of my other cherry tomatoes and keep producing all the way to the first freeze. The best cherry tomato ever!!"

Exquisite flavor, December 31, 2008
Submitted by MorkRider from Central Valley, CA
"As a horse owner, I don't have a lot of time to garden but I have land and a lot of manure! I find that I need to be selective in my choices to do the garden any justice at all. Every seed catalog is filled with offerings of wonderful vegetables but sometimes it ends up being sales pitch. The varieties that I love seem to be Burpee 95% of the time! I am not a fan of cherry tomatoes as a rule but this is one is amazing. I found that I couldn't keep up with the harvests and the flavor is absolutely out of this world. So abundant that I give them away and the recipients always beg for more!"

Best in class-Hands Down!, August 24, 2008
Submitted by LakeErieGarden from Lorain, OH
"I was a big fan of the Sweet 100 cherry tomato. Was is the key word. It is still my favorite red cherry but this Sun Gold variety is the best Cherry Tomato I have ever tasted bar none. Everyone I have given it to loves it. I did not think an orange tomato would be this good, boy was I wrong. Huge, super productive plants, early producers, disease resistant and they pretty much grow themselves without any intervention to top it all off. They will crack with uneven watering but that's a small price to pay for the greatest cherry tomato of all time, bar none, hands down. I am mad at myself for not trying this before."

High yield but cracks, August 21, 2008
Submitted by rvermar from Ryderwood, WA
"This tomato grows like CRAZY and the yield is phenomenal. The plants look like chandeliers with long strings of fruit. I had to top the tomato plants to keep them from continuing to flower and fruit too late in the season (Pac NW)

Major problem with cracking after a 3-day heavy rain. I kept them watered all summer but it didn't make any difference!

Oh, BTW, one of the 3 plants I rec'd turned out to be a red tomato, not gold. This one resists the cracking better than the gold ones. ALL the ripening fruit cracked after this rain. But there are so many more fruit still coming, it doesn't matter much. I just used the cracked ones in Spag. sauce."

Sun Gold Tomato, June 27, 2008
Submitted by CTbruce from North Western Connecticut
"Many people aren't fond of yellow tomatoes, but sun gold tomatoes always change their mind.
Sun Gold are heavy croppers and some are always at their peak every day. I have a basket of these wonderful tomatoes free to try at my stand and they go fast. My customers ask for them by name and I grow more and more every year.
For me they are great croppers and resist cracking without having a tough skin. The plants don't like to be staked so I let them lean against an angled, small mesh,
fence."

Biggest Hit of Summer 2007!, February 24, 2008
Submitted by Marmoxmag from Scarborough, ME
"These tomatoes were the surprise hit of my garden in 2007. I had never tried this variety before, usually planting Burpee classic red cherry tomatoes. First, these are DELICIOUS fresh off the plant and stay fresh for a long time in the fridge. Secondly, I couldn't *believe* the yield. I truly must have had 100 tomatoes on each plant, easy. I couldn't keep up with them, and invited friends and neighbors over to enjoy the harvest. Finally, unlike the yellow heirloom pear tomatoes, these don't split when they're ripe. The pears split open the second they're ready meaning 100% blemished fruit, but these are "ripe" at a variety of shades and never split open. I'm planting again this year! :) SUGGESTION: plant fewer than you think you'll need because of the yield."
