Tomato Sun Gold Hybrid (Cherry) - 1 Pkt. (30 seeds)

"Rapidly becoming the most popular cherry tomato of all time an amazing feat for a non-red variety. But when you taste the sweet/tart flavor you'll instantly know why. The beautiful golden-orange fruits are borne in large clusters. The flavor develops early, so this little tomato is great for snacking a week before fully mature, when it becomes very sweet and delicious. Ready to hrvest in 65 days.

"Three years ago I got some of these plants. They are the best flavored little cherry I have ever eaten. For the next two years I tried to get some but was sold out. Got them early this time. Can't wait to taste them again."

Very yummy and beautiful, December 24, 2007

"This tomato grew very well and tolerated a little abuse. The plants were grown organically without pesticides or chemical fertilizers and did very well. We have a neighborhood children's garden that was started last year and the kids just loved picking and eating these right off the vine. Much fruit was produced even when some of the other varieties of tomatoes didn't do so well. The fruits were amazingly sweet and added nice color to salads and salsa. We are greatly reducing the amount of tomatoes planted this coming year, but the sun gold will be a variety worth keeping!"

Best Cherry Tomato Ever!, August 20, 2007
Submitted by Ernie from Baltimore, MD
"I grew this tomato for the first time this year because all of my friends and family told me how awesome the tomato was. I planted two plants and gave the other one away to my cousin. The plants are now producing so many tomatoes I don't know what to do with them. I am canning, freezing, and just eating raw. The plants are now about 7 feet tall. As for the taste they are #1! They are so sweet! No one can get enough of them! Another positive effect is that they are low in acid so no matter how many you eat you don't get heartburn. The neighbor's kids, which are 3 and 5, come up to our garden and eat these tomatoes right off of the vine for that fact that the vines don't require the use of pesticide for they have no pests. This tomato is my family and I's favorite tomato ever!"

Disappointed, August 3, 2007

"I was sold by the description of the Sungold, so I had plants sent to myself and to several friends. Not one of them is crazy about this tomato. We all agree it is just so-so in flavor. It is true that it has low acidity, but it also is not sweet or flavorful in the least. It is very bland, rather mealy and not worth the container space. The color is nice, if that is what you want tomatoes for."

"I've never tasted a tomato as good as the Sun Golds. I originally found these at my local farmer's market, paying up to $5 per pint. My little girl could not eat them fast enough. I've grown these for two seasons now. The fruit never makes it into the house. We just eat them right off the vine. It's difficult to find the seeds at the store. Up until this year, I've just found the plants at my local garden center. This year I bought the seed packet and I've already got 32 three-inch seedlings waiting to be transplanted. Incredible find!"

"I've grown these for a couple years now. in really wet weather they will have a small problem with cracking but so will all others. I've never tasted better and I grow 20-30 varieties of heirloom and hybrid plants in a given year. Be warned, give this plant a lot of support, it likes to vine. It won the world record for longest tomato vine so don't be surprised if it goes 10-12 feet on you.

I just get some plain untreated lumber from the lumber yard/home depot 1 inch by 2 inch by 8 feet. Pound 2 of these into the ground around 1 foot away on either side of plant, then use twine / cord / nylons /etc. lacing back and forth every 8-12 inches up the stakes to support the plant. You'll get more tomatos from just one plant if properly supported, fertilized, and watered than you can possible use.

If you only grow one tomato, this is the one to do!!!"

"Very delicious and matured early. These little gems need to be harvested and eaten as soon as they ripen, because they do not keep well. The plants were not as hardy as all others in my garden, and did not last past mid summer. But while they produced, they were yummy, and I would recommend them on taste alone."

"This was my frist experience with this particular Cherry tomato and I was amazed by the results. Wonderful plants produced great tasting bit sized fruit early and often. My 1.5 yr old daughter loved picking and eating her own "matos" straight from our backyard garden."

I don't even LIKE tomatoes!, September 25, 2006
Submitted by Carie from Sacramento
"Tomatoes to me are icky, but I needed to learn to like them other than in a cooked sauce. I planted 3 different tomato types (grape, plum & beefsteak) from seed in the spring. I'm new to gardening too & wanted an organic garden where I didn't use any chemicals, just planted other plants that deterred the bugs. I broke my back about the time I should have been thinning the plants so I have probably 8-10 Sungold plants in addition to a few plum & beefsteak plants in a small space. It's pretty much wall to wall tomato plants there.

I've been using the little tomatoes in salads a lot & on skewers when grilling & now really like them! I'm picking them when they're yellow/orange so they're still a bit tart. I bought 2 containers of grape tomatoes from the store tonight (one regular one organic) to compare flavor. Absolutely no comparison. My little tomatoes do have tougher skins (what causes that?) but they are just so much tastier!
I'm just learning about vegetable gardening, but I think I'll alway have some of these in the future. Some tomatoes are still icky to me, but not this one."

"I call this the candy in my garden. A really sweet variety with a good flavor. I have planted it in my garden for 3-4 years. Three plants gives me more than what I can eat along with my parents and I share quite a bit. a large plant, so needs room to grow"
