Filet Bean French Filet - 1 Pkt. (2 oz.)

"Plants yield early and need no support. One packet has 2 oz. of seed unless noted, and will sow a row of about 20'; one pound sows about 160'. Our seed is not treated. French Filet.ß56 days. The delicious, rich flavor of these thin, straight, tender beans is unlike any other. Easy to grow, they reach their flavor peak at 5-7"" long and a mere 3/8"" wide. Dark green pods are streaked with purple. Produces heavily. Burpee Exclusive. Sun."

Best Green Beans, September 27, 2009
Submitted by ped01l
"I have planted these beans two years in a row now. They are amazing. I live in the Cleveland, OH area. Planted two 10 foot rows in June. It is now nearly October and I am still picking beans and freezing them. They consistently produce 2-3 lbs a week. At the end of July I planted one more row and those are also coming on strong despite the cooler nights. Buy these beans...you will not be disappointed! Tender and delicious! (In the picture the bean plants are on the far right.)"

Great...once you can get them to germinate!, September 6, 2009
Submitted by petitefutee from Springfield, VA
"These beans did NOT want to come up!! I'm in zone 7 and had troubles getting these beans to germinate, just as another reviewer did. I finally soaked them overnight, and then rinsed them each day, leaving a tiny bit of water until I saw the very beginning of a sprout. That took about 3-4 days. Then I planted, and was rewarded. Perfect shape and flavor. No troubles thereafter. I just planted a second batch for fall, soaking only over night. 14 days later, not a single sprout. I'm back to the 3-4 day drill. I won't give up, as they're worth the trouble. (I grew these in an Earthbox with an automatic watering system)"

2 attempt, zero germination, June 19, 2009

"I've tried this bean 2 years in a row, and not a single bean germinated. I thought beans were pretty easy, so I wonder what I'm doing wrong."

Fruitful Yield, September 20, 2008
Submitted by Lesliek from La Grange, IL
"I am very happy with this bean. It germinated within a week and about 90% of the seeds germinated. They grew well and produced a very fruitful yield. I had 4 rows that were only 5' and I'm sure I harvested at least 15 lbs of green beans. I planted each row about two weeks apart so they didn't all mature at the same time. They were just delicious and i made many salads with them and other vegetables from my garden all summer."

Delicious!, July 31, 2008
Submitted by grandpasgarden from Wooster, OH
"First year for these beans. Being a bush bean it doesn't take up a lot of room. Planted in rows, the plants don't spread out anymore than about two feet across. Once they start producing you're picking them every few days. Delicious cooked with some fried bacon pieces or eaten as a cold salad with some onion slices. Can't go wrong with these."

"French beans are very high-priced in stores ($6+ per pound!) and never as tender/delicious/attractive as these... These bush bean plants do not take up a lot of space yet the yield is wonderful. Beautiful purple flowers become round, long beans in a hurry.

The first time I planted these I thought there was something wrong with the beans, as they were all covered with purple to dark gray streaks. Rest assured that the streaking is normal for these beans. After steaming, the streaks disappear and the beans turn a bright, beautiful green.

I have made space in my garden for these beans for the past several years and have never been disappointed or wanted something different. My biggest problem with the beans is that my daughter likes to eat them raw, so it's a challenge getting them to the dinner table!

Once the beans start to grow, commit to picking them every day or two, before they get lumpy. The beans store well so if you only have a few plants you can store them in the fridge until you have enough for a meal."
