"What a great tomato! Wonderful flavor, good yields, huge size (18oz.+ on nearly every one) and it tolerates our less than tomato friendly weather here in western Washington state. Good disease resistance to boot! It produced well this summer when my usual favorites performed miserably. This one goes at the top of my seed list for next year!"

Great plant, but lacks taste,

"Based on all the previous reviews here raving over Brandyboy, I did something I don't usually do. I decided to not only try Brandyboy, but I even planted more of it than any other tomato this year. That was a mistake. While the plants are vigorous and the tomatoes large and plentiful, the bottom line in my book is taste, and that's where this tomato falls down. It's okay mine you, but is rather boring and lacks any true tomato bite. And the taste and texture are very inconsistent from one tomato to the next. Some are really bad, but even the good ones just don't compare to Better Boy itself. I've tried it out on lots of friends who didn't like it at all and opted for the Better Boy. I did find a decent use for it though, I fry them up red for breakfast and the taste is very nice that way. The problem is I now have lots of Brandyboys and not enough Better Boys. Lesson learned - when trying something new, stick with your favorite as the main crop and add 2 plants of the new variety until you decide if you like it."

"This plant displayed the best disease resistance among my plants this year besting Better Boy and Early Girl. I had one tomato in June and it started solid production in July. Fruits were close to a pound even in the immense SW Oklahoma heat where it routinely gets into the 100s for weeks at a time. Like a lot of big fruit varieties, this plant needs lots of sunlight. The taste of the fruit is excellent as advertised. I will always plant this variety now. I see no reason to plant another big fruit variety since this one can produce large fruits earlier and more often than most large fruit varieties."

"Planted with Brandywine and several other beefsteak varieties in a new garden near Asheville, NC in 2008. Brandyboy had the best vigor and was the heaviest producer among some 15 tomato varieties. Flavor was comparable to Brandywine -- some preferred it, others Brandywine. Will definitely plant this variety in 2009."

"I planted Brandy Boy by starting seeds indoors. The plants grew extremely vigorously in NC and produced a fairly bountiful harvest of excellent tomatoes. The taste was fantastic!...especially when tried and compared at the same meal with other varieties. I have 2 complaints: one is that the plants seemed to require about twice as much fertilizer in order to remain a good healthy dark green color, the other is that due to low acid content of the fruit, they tend to spoil quickly on the vine, so I picked them with a little green still showing and let them fully ripen indoors. I truly believe it is the best tomato I have ever tasted."

"My plants arrived almost 4 weeks after I had my other tomatoes in the ground. I immediately opened the package to find the most pititful looking plants. Since I already had the holes dug, I planted them and by August I started to get flowers. I finally got about 2 tomatoes per plant. The taste was very bland. I would not recommend Brandyboy for the Front Range, Northern Colorado."

The transplants, started from seed, survived a 28 degree frost while hardening off in the greenhouse.

"This is my third year growing this variety. The first year I grew it my husband tasted one of these tomatoes on a BLT and requested that I grow this variety every year. I gave one to my dad, and he now grows it every year. I shared one with a coworker and now he grows it every year. See a pattern?
This is a healthy and very vigorous plant with a good yield (even better yield if you use Bonide Blossom Set Spray). The tomatoes are fairly thin skinned with a lot of meaty inside and are not all watery like some beefsteaks. The flavor is just as intense as the Brandywine tomatoes I have tasted at heirloom tomato festivals.
Do yourself a favor and try this tomato just once, everyone I have shared it with has been hooked."

"I have been growing tomatoes since I was 10 years old and helping my dad in his tomato garden. In fact, tomatoes are the only thing I can consistently grow well. Every year I try one or two new varieties of tomatoes to see if there are any others that I'd want to add to my annual planting list.
Last year, I tried the Brandy Boy and I wasn't impressed. I had heard so much about Brandywines being the best tomato for true tomato lovers, but in CT, I couldn't grow the original beacuase the growing season is too short. When I saw these, I had to try them.
Overall I thought the yield was poor and the taste was so-so. Maybe others have better luck than I did, but I will not order these again. I've had much better flavor and yield with other plants."

"Your Brandy Boy tomatoes are unbelievably good! The best taste ever, just like Brandywine. Wonderful beefsteak texture. Easy to grow from seed. Sometimes they are misshapen, but, because they are incredibly prolific, there’s usually a perfect one for slicing. And, if you can believe this, I let one of the plants keep going over the winter (in Southern California), and it performed just as well the second year. It is now February, tomatoes are still ripening on it, and I am wondering whether to try for a third year. Perennial tomatoes, anyone?"

"I grew the Brandy Boy next to a Sudduth's Strain heirloom in 2007. The Brandy Boy's fruit production was roughly 1/3 more than the heirloom and ripened more evenly. The taste was not as good as the heirloom, but neither of the Brandywines were as good as I was expecting. Both plants grew at the same rate and size. I prefer the taste and performance of the Big Beef or Big Boy to any Brandywines."

"I was excited by the prospect of a tomato that would combine the best of Brandywine and Big Boy, but I was disappointed with my crop. The plants grew handsomely, and we had ideal weather in CT. However, I found the tomatoes, while big and juicy, rather flavorless. I was also shocked at how the fruit just petered out end of August while my early 4th of July's and Sweet 100's continued producing. It is as though it produced one crop of tomatoes, and then started again so that I had ripe tomatoes for October, but these suffered from black spot. The green tomatoes were excellent for all my cooking and canning needs, but my experience will prevent me from growing these again. Burpee offers too many other superior tomatoes."

"I've planted these 2 years. I moved the location, and the wilt I often get is less this fall, but the fruit yield is down quite a bit from last year. First half of summer was a drought in these parts (no rain for over a month)-I don't know if that made the difference. Taste is excellent but not heavenly like they were last year. But I intend to keep planting them anyway. The tomatoes I did get this year are on the enormous side, though all sort of cloven and ridged in interesting ways (not like the picture at all)."

"As I give away most of my Vegetables to Family and Friends, I never got a reaction to my Tomatoes like this ever!! The Fruits were extremely delicious and stayed fresh after picking for a long time. "I grew Brandy Boy in a large container with organic methods. Despite the unusually cool weather and the severe whitefly infestation, Brandy Boy out performed my expectations. Even after removing several branches due to the whiteflies, the plant kept producing fruit. I've never grown the traditional Brandywine tomato but bought a few at a local farmer's market and my Brandy Boy tomatoes were definitely equal to those of Brandywine."

"The seeds germinated easily and quickly. The plants grew faster than most of the other varieties I grew. I started picking huge dark-pink meaty tomatoes at the same time as my Big Girls (3rd week of July). And, they were distinctly delicious! Since I grow more than my family could possibly eat we give away alot of veggies. Once friends got a taste of these they started asking for them specifically. Fantasticly prolific. "My first year with your Brandy Boy Hybrid.
Over all I was impressed.
Nicely shaped fruit..good yield...I loved the color ..pink as you stated....and I enjoyed the greener shoulders of this variety.
Most weighed in at 1.5 LB.
Circumfrences 14.5 inches.
A nice big flavorful..and beautiful tomato !!
I definitely will buy again.
Having said all that...this year in zone 6B in Connecticut had very poor weather. Very cold rainy and windy early summer. now.....late summer (sept 1) hurricanes and cold .wet weather again..still this one stayed a strong vined plant..still producing flowers and has many green tomatos on the vine.
