"HEIRLOOM. Purple Tomato 80 days. This medium-sized, very dark maroon beefsteak, with wonderfully rich flavor, originated in Crimea, an island peninsula in the Black Sea with perfect ""tomato summers"". Extremely tasty. Indeterminate Sorry, state laws prohibit shipping plants to Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona, California, Nevada. Plants ship in spring at proper planting time. "

Delicious!,
September 3, 2009 Submitted bypeznin from Durham, NC
"I grew better boy, big boy, sun gold, grape, and black krim tomatoes this summer. By far I'm happiest with the flavor of the black krim. Flavorful and juicy, they blew the others away. My other tomato plants have had trouble with blossom end rot and disease, but the black krims were never affected. I've been so happy with this heirloom I'm now wanting to try other ones."

"I received this plant along with three other heirloom tomato plants the first of May. I planted them in a prepared bed and grew gigantic plants/vines, but did not get even one tomato off of any of the plants. It was money wasted on my part."

Black Krim Grim,
July 10, 2009 Submitted bycandyaj from Swansea, SC
"I love tomatoes and I was so excited about these tomatoes. I planted the seed indoors and treated them with TLC. I planted them outdoors after danger of frost had passed. Again I treated my plants with TLC. I caged them, fertilized them, and loved them. in anticipation of a meaty tomato with intense tomato flavor.
Hmm....not so much.
Though the plants are beautiful. and the tomatoes appear to be delicious. I am hugely dissapointed, Here are the reasons. 1. Tomatoes do have a different color to them, but nothing like the picture. 2. they seem to ripen unevenly, they stay green on the top of the tomato and ripen on the bottom. Thought it was just me. So i tried one. 3. By the time they do ripen, they have rotten spots and the skin is split. 4. BUGS LOVE THEM. 5. Of the 12 plants I raised from seed i have gotten ONE pretty tomato off of the vine. I cut it open with great anticipation. It looked pretty, nice and meaty, just they way I like, then I bit into the slice to find the flavor very dull. With only a slight tomato flavor. 6. Also, there are not many tomatoes on the vine, and the plant and the blooms fell off and the plant has quit blooming. 7. I have had to throw away nearly every tomato, for one reason or another, spots, bugs.
Now, I know what you are thinking....split skins and rotten spots....too much water..... NO. I promise.
ALL OF MY STANDARD varieties that i grow every year are doing just fine."

"The krim is the best tasting tomato I have tried.I have been growing veggies for over 20 years and have grown many different varieties.I have found if you heavily fertilize they will produce a bunch.Added bonus people look at them and assume they are rotten.I have 6 krim and am trying the Italian ice this year."

You must experience these for yourself!,
February 28, 2009 Submitted byminuetcat
"We got a Black Krim in Burpee's Heirloom Tomato Sampler and couldn't be more pleased with it. Contrary to the reviews, it was actually our highest-yielding of the four heirlooms. Our single plant did very well--despite being chewed to a 3-inch stub of stem by rabbits early in the season! Not only did it make a miracle comeback in mere weeks, but it immediately started producing huge, beautiful tomatoes.
The tomatoes have a delicious, unusual flavor to them--the only word for them is "buttery", though the flavor's fairly tangy--and should not be wasted in sauce or soup. This is the kind of tomato you use for sandwiches, or eat by itself...it's just that great-tasting. The Black Krim is truly an experience worth having...even if your plant produces only one or two, I'd consider it to be worth the trouble!"

Black Krim Hard to Beat,
February 13, 2008 Submitted bydelilah
"This is one of the best tasting tomatoes ever. I had a hard time giving them away at work--they were always the last ones chosen from the assortment I took in--because they are indeed "black" and rather ugly. But the flavor can't be beat. I will grow this tomato every year."

January 28, 2008 Submitted byTomatoBug from Mount Upton, NY
"Black Krim is a very nice looking tomato and the plants grow very well. Has a good taste and a good producer. I found that many of the tomatoes blighted though before they could ripen. They also were very soft, so don't pick too far in advance before using."

"I have grown this and other heirlooms now, this may be the best, I don't know I always change my mind as to what is best but I know this. You will be hard pressed to find a better tasting tomato. For those of you who have never experimented with the black varieties, it will be like the first time you have even had a tomato when you taste these. Black Krim always gets some real estate in my garden and always will. Try it, you'll see."

Best Tasting Ever,
August 12, 2007 Submitted byVeggieGirl from Durham, NC
"These were the best tasting tomatoes that I have ever had and I will definitely grow them again. I planted 5 varieties just this year and these were my favorite ever. I got good yield and they were not bothered as much by birds because of their dark color. They are beautiful when sliced too. Some cracking happened after heavy rains, but mine didn't typically rot as a result."

Black Krim,
August 1, 2007 Submitted byCoolbeans
"I have been growing tomatoes for years but I have never grown Heirloome's before. This one worked well for me. I live in Kentucky and I am getting good baseball size tomatoes from 5 plants. Wonderful taste. I will grow these again next year. They initially fooled me by turing dark read on the bottom but still maintaining a green on the top. On furter inspection the green was very soft to the touch, not hard like not ready for picking. On slicing, just under the green the tomatoe was ready to eat. Again, this tomatoe worked well for me in Kentucky! Cheers!"

"This tomato I tried with a couple other heirlooms and will say both this and the Purple Cherokee were better than the beloved Brandwine. Not as round, crack resistant or pretty as the engineered for perfection Celebrity, which is a pretty good tasting engineered tomato but nothing I've ever had taste as good as this Black Krim. I mean it. I would give my old baseball cards away before I let go of these babies."

"I noticed that these are not being offered again and thank goodness. I had very poor performance with this including the cracking which seemed to attract pests. I never got to taste them except for one. They were very watery and rotted quickly. I have grown tomatoes in the worse conditions and never had them go bad like this."

January 20, 2007 Submitted byboggle10
"I received one Black Krim with a group of 4. Unfortunately it died in the pot before I could plant it. I was looking forward to something different and was disappointed that I never got to taste it.
I may try it again this season. From my experience, I can't recommend it, but its demise may have just been one of those things
Of course, Burpee did refund my money for this plant, but I would have rather had the tomatoes!"

"I grew this variety a few years ago when I lived in S. Indiana. This is a great tasting black tomato, with a unique and hard to describe flavor. The plants were very vigorous and set *tons* of fruit.
I'd give it more stars but I found that the tomatoes were very prone to cracking. Few tomatoes were blemish-free. Because of the cracking, many of the fruits spoiled on the vine before I had a chance to eat them. But because the variety is such a heavy producer, I still got to eat tons. None of the other varieties that I grew at that time had a cracking problem. I tried to water evenly, and the calcium levels in the soil were ok, so I think this cracking problem is a characteristic of the variety.
So it's a great tomato if you can deal with lots of cracked fruit."
