Zucchini Butterstick Hybrid - 1 Pkt. (25 seeds)

"Bright yellow fruits have white flesh with firm texture and sweet, nutty flavor. Prolific plants with single-stem habit, have a long harvest period. Butterstick hybrid produces a yellow straight-neck squash on a zucchini type plant. Proven tops for performance, flavor and wide adaptability. Burpee bred. Ready to harvest starting in just 50 days.

GARDEN HINTS: After danger of frost, sow 3-4 seeds in groups 3-4' apart or sow 6"" apart in rows, later thinning to 18"" apart. Grow in full sun.

Sorry, plants CANNOT be sent to AK, AZ, CA, HI or NV. "

Best Squash, July 10, 2009
Submitted by b58red from Alabama
"The Butterstick Hybrid is the only squash I grow every year because it is a consistent huge producer and so versatile. If you want a Zucchini you've got it, if you want a summer squash to stew down just add a little sugar, and for grilling it is tops.
Make sure you allow for huge plants that will grow up to 10 ft long in a hot climate like the deep south. If you plant them too close you will have problems with powdery mildew as they get larger and crowd each other. I recommend starting them in cups in the greenhouse and setting them out after all danger of frost is past. I usually plant them 3 to 4 feet apart and try to encourage every other one to grow in the opposite direction of the one next to it The biggest problem is stem borers that will cause them to wilt and eventually die unless you cut off all of the leaves near where the borer has attacked and bury a foot or two of the stem then water daily until it recovers to produce a continuing huge crop. I cannot eat or give them away fast enough when they are in peak production. Everyone I have given them to says they are the best squash they have ever eaten."

Great Plant, February 28, 2009
Submitted by Seleth from Abilene TX
"I only planted 1 seed of this zucchini in my raised box garden. In no time at all the single plant had taken over the entire box with wonderful giant leaves and beautiful yellow fruit. This was such a high producer I was picking 2 - 3 zucchini about every 3 to 4 days. I had a hard time using all the fruit from just this one plant. I grilled, boiled, pickled and used in salads as much as I could and had to give lots of the fruit away. I will definately plant this variety again and make sure I have proper space for it, as it gets very large."

Wow do they ripen fast!, October 23, 2008
Submitted by Birdie from Central Texas
"I was blown away by this veggie! I'm a new gardener, so I didn't know what to expect from squash plants, but I just couldn't believe how BIG the squash got in just a couple of days! I would say they averaged 8-9" fruits!

I really had to keep an eye on them so the cucumber beetles (nasty little biting devils) wouldn't get more squash than me, but I only used an organic spray of bitter oils to fight pests.

I even thought the thorny plants looked nice enough that I could plant them in the front yard next year. :)"

Great producer, October 23, 2008
Submitted by Yardner from Southern Ohio
"I've had a lot of success with this one. Though yellow zuke isn't my favorite, this is the one I plant.
Its easy to grow and doesn't require a lot of plants to provide that yellow color to your favorite squash dish."

This is the yellow one to grow, January 16, 2008
Submitted by LakeErieGarden from Lorain, OH
"I always plant one or two yellow colored Zucchini and this is all around the best one. Really good taste and like most Zukes, really prolific. This does have a truly good flavor, doesn't taste all watered down."

Tastey!, December 29, 2007
Submitted by NJdean from Northwest New jersey
"Planted this hybrid last year (2007). Great seed germanation, fast grower. Hugh yields from just a few plants. kept producing right up to first frost. Not much damage from squash vine borer. Flavor of zucchini best I ever had. even when giving away "extra" zucchini, no one ran away from getting too much, had no problem finding repeat takers"

"These are prolific and very attractive plants. I have 3-4 plants on each of two hills (2 feet in diameter). The fruit flesh is pretty smooth. I don't have a lot of blemishes, either, so they're rather photogenic!

I recommend these. It's my first sucess growing squash other than zuchinni. I'm glad I went with Burpee seeds this year; otherwise, I'd probably have nothing again."

"This Zuchini Butterstick Hybrid was planted by mistake. I planted the seeds thinking that they were the Straight neck summer squash. I did not check the package until after they started producing. I was pleasantly supprised with the outcome. These plants out grew and out produced any other type of squash that I have ever planted. The taste was no differant than the Straight Neck Squash. The size was slightly larger than the standard summer squash that I am use to planting. I will be planting them again rather than the standard Straight Neck or Crook Neck Summer squash."
