Lettuce Mighty Red Oak (Looseleaf) - 1 Pkt. (750 seeds)

"Fast-growing, tender, colorful, and tolerant of hot weather. 50 days. This lettuce gets 12-16"" across and out-yields the long-popular 'Red Salad Bowl'. The finely cut leaves are very tender and mild, and very slow to bolt. It's more productive too. Burpee Exclusive. Plant early in spring. Grows best in cool weather. Can also be grown as a fall crop. Protect from heat with shade cloth. Likes fertile soil, ample water. Best when picked minutes before your meal. Space lettuce plants 8"" apart. Will plant about 30' of row; one oz. sows 400'. Grows best in full sun."

Mighty, Mighty Red Oak
Reviewed On:March 2, 2006
"I have planted Lettuce Mighty Red Oak for about three years. I have been planting loose leaf type lettuce for at least 40 years and have not found any to top this lettuce. It does not bolt, it's great for sandwiches, just keeps growing and growing, and looks great too. I always plant it in early spring and a second sowing about the end of August depending on the weather. Two years ago my fall planting produced to early December through several frosts.I have given some seeds to my friends and they think it is great also. Last year, 2005 season, I was unable to buy any seeds in any store. My grumbling caused my one friend to give me some of his. I live in Washington County Maryland where we get hot weather and cold weather."
