Seedling Heat Mats - 1 Mat - 48in.X20-3/4in.

"Seedling Heat Mats are sized to fit under common seed flats. The 9"" X 19-1/2"" mat fits under one flat and the 48"" X 20"" fits under four flats. All distribute an even 10-20 deg. temperature increase, causing seeds to germinate and grow faster. Heavy rubber mats with lighting, watering and planting information. U.L. listed. "

Im so happy I bought this mat1, April 21, 2009
Submitted by MrTarkanian from Massachusetts
"I like to start seeds indoors and decided to purchase this heating mat. I am thrilled with the purchase and only wish I had gotten the bigger one. I started my tomato seeds three to four days ago and my heating mat just came in yesterday. I set the flat up on the mat and just this morning and about 90% (out of 72 planted)of the seeds sprouted overnight. I would recommend this mat to anyone who grows indoors and I will probably order the bigger one soon!"

The BEST!, February 19, 2009
Submitted by Symphony from Marin County, CA
"Last year everything germinated so slowly. This year I bought a seedling heat mat. Unbelieveable! Basil, tomato, eggplant seeds germinated within 4-days. Pepper plants germinated and sprouted within six days. So far, no damping-off. I will amend this rating with another review if damping-off occurs. I home to be harvesting tomatoes in July, this year (2009)!"

A must for seed starting, January 22, 2009
Submitted by Krawz from Oakland County, MI
"I've had trouble with starting certain types of seeds . . . but with these mats, I just plugged them into a timer to run during the night. I rarely have any issues now with seed propagation. They slide easily under the flats (10 x 20 size)."

Germination Galoire!, August 24, 2008
Submitted by eaglover from Tuxedo, NY
"Since I start my seeds in a cold basement in winter, I decided to purchase the 48" x 20 3/4" seedling heat mat in Winter 2008 to see if it would help with faster and more effective germination. The mat worked beautifully! I have never had such success in seed germination before using this mat.

I was able to squeeze four mats and part of a fifth onto the mat (rotating them all from time to time to equalize time on the mat). Within 48 hours, about 50% of my seeds had started sprouting. By the end of a week, a total of about 85% of my seeds had begun germinating. Many of these seeds were two to three years old, and I hadn't had much success with them in previous years (even when I first bought them). I thought the seeds were just of poor quality.

When it was time for planting in the spring, my plants were stronger and larger than any others at that time during previous years. I always start my seeds and plant my plants at the same times every year, including this past year when I used the heat mat.

I did not measure the temperature difference between flats on the mat and flats not on the mat, but I could definitely feel the temperature difference when I put my hand under the heated flats. These flats were definitely much warmer than the ambient air in the basement. I did not use a temperature regulator, but germination was still quite successful.

Adding a little heat using this mat solved a lot germination problems for me. I would recommend getting a seedling heat mat to anyone who starts seeds in a cooler room or basement. If you start a lot of seeds, purchasing the largest mat is definitely worth the price!"

Works great, March 19, 2008
Submitted by SoupAddict from Cincinnati, OH
"In my zone, a heating mat is a necessity for pre-spring seed starting (it's March 19, snowing outside right now, and energy is too expensive to keep the house at 75 all the time!). This mat did the job -- my seeds have already started sprouting, and they've only been in the soil for 3 days. Good purchase."

Excellent Product!, February 10, 2008
Submitted by GardeningGuru from Upstate, SC
"I've been gardening for well over 10 years and I have found this product to be an asset in my gardening supply. For the beginner to the expert it's an amazing product. If you're serious about seed starting as I am you may want to purchase a temperature regulator for this mat along with any others. The speed in germination is awesome and it works very well with growing on seedlings. I have 6 of these mats I use for seed starting and even use them in my greenhouse during the cold winter months to help regulate temperatures of my vegetables."

seedling heat mats, March 12, 2006
Submitted by gardening girl from Blue Springs, Ms.
"I have a cool, older house and last year when I planted tomatoes and pepper seeds in flats in the living room(no heater),they didn't germinate until 4 or 5 weeks later. I thought I had bum seeds, but it was just cold. So,this year, I got one heat mat for one flat to see how it would do. Well, I planted tomatoes, peppers, cucumber, squash, zucchini, and cucumber seeds. 1 day later, the cucumber, squash, and zucchini had already started peeping up out of the soil! I could not believe it!!! That heat mat is the best thing I have ever bought. I will buy it again for next year. Thank you Burpee!! "
