"I have grown Early Choice for over ten years now and I have to highly recommend it. I usually can't wait to taste my first ear of sweet corn of the summer and this variety is the one that provides this. The stalks are vigorous and generally produce only one medium sized ear per plant, plus maybe a nubbin ear on the stronger ones. The taste is as good as any main season variety, far better than Early Sunglow. The ears shown in the catalog can be obtained, but only under absolutely ideal conditions. The maturity is from 60-72 days depending on the weather. Often it will mature before the European corn borer moths can get to it! This variety can be planted more closely spaced, but too close together will decrease ear size. Early pollen depletion is a mild problem that can be prevented by planting a regular later variety at the same time, next door, as I do. If you want a better corn crop, plant a larger, later variety, but this one is absolutely perfect for an early corn. In NC I can get two crops of this variety per season grown on the same land."

Low kernal production,

"I was disappointed with the low kernal production of this particular hybrid. Germination was excellent, but it seems that the pollen was spent before the corn developed silk to receive it. Since it was the first stand that I planted, I gave it special attention and noted the prematurity of the pollen stalk on most plants. Only about five cobs produced full kernal. (They were very tasty, I might add.) It could have been a fluke of nature. The next stand I planted produced better, but not was still well below average expectations."

"This was my first attempt at growing corn. We grew 5 rows of corn, and it grew fine. Some of the ears were on the small side, but we had a decent crop, and the corn was DELICIOUS! We plan on having this again in our garden next year....only more of it!"

"My wife picked this one and it is great. The ears are small as is the plant but it was ready in 60 days and the flavor was excellent. We only had room for 3 rows and I was concerned about pollenation but we got an ear from all plants. Excellent choice for a small garden/"

"I've grown Early Choice corn for the past 4 years, since reading a glowing review written by Organic Gardening growers from Newport, WA. I live in far northern Idaho at 2800 feet, and my garden is surrounded by a cedar/mixed conifer forest. I get fairly good sun exposure (although not as long as I would if located in the valley with no trees around). We have sometimes very wet and cold June weather, and I pre-sprout my corn seeds indoors, planting them out by June 1. I ALWAYS get the most delicious corn by late August. The ears are larger than Early Sunglow and most plants yield 2 ears, which I think have much better flavor."
