"Potting soil and pot in one little unit which, when watered, expands to 1-3/4"" diameter, 2-1/8"" high. Great for growing seedlings to transplant size."

Huge disappointment,
May 9, 2009 Submitted byPeapicker from San Francisco Bay Area
"I started 24 nasturtium seeds in these pellets after expanding them with tap water. From the same seed package I started 24 peat pots that I had filled with potting soil. All 24 of the potting soil seeds came up as anticipated while only ONE seedling emerged from the pellets. I allowed another week to allow for late starters... nothing more happened. As I crumbled the peat pellets into the trash (I didn't want this stuff in my compost) I identified numerous germinated seeds that had not emerged. I then planted those in potting soil and ALL sent up leaves. What is in these pellets? I will not use them again."

Not worth the time or Money,
April 22, 2008 Submitted byKCLK from Seattle, WA
"These turned out not to be worth the time or money. After ordering 2 bags and getting a 3rd one to try to see if that one would work, we found that NONE of them worked as advertised. This was very disappointing. To make a note though, these are NOT made of peat, they are made of coconut coir. We were not happy with these and had to get our money back on this product. Burpee was nice to deal with, but we will not be buying these EVER again!! Please do not waste your time with these."

Makes seed starting a snap.,
March 25, 2008 Submitted bySoupAddict from Cincinnati, OH
"I used a lot of these, as well as Burpee's pellets, this winter to get my garden started. They both worked great -- all of my seedlings came up, and they're thriving wonderfully. Although both brands performed equally well from a plant standpoint, I preferred these Jiffy pellets because the netting is a lot easier to work with (the material around Burpee's pellets is thicker and taller and sometimes gets in the way of the seedling, if the seed sprouts off-center. I had to trim several pellets down with scissors.) However, I do prefer the trays that came with the Burpee domed starter kits, so going forward, I'll use the Jiffy pellets with the Burpee trays. It's all good!"

Best used seed starting product,
August 29, 2007 Submitted byCHRISTINA
"I used these peat pellets for the first time and I saw an increase in root devlopment as well as an easy an unique way to start seeds off real fast espically with the trick I use by boiling some hot water to about 150 degrees and then setting the pellets in the water inside of a flat container and once the pellets swole to the end size I placed the seeds into the pellets center and covered the container up. I kept the temp around 75 to 100 degrees by fluxuating the temperature back and forth. Try it yourself. Have fun"

I love these things!,
May 15, 2007 Submitted byloveintexas from North Texas
"I felt guilty about starting seeds in styrofoam cups - the roots got tangled and plus I wasted the cups. I've found that I get more plants out of a package of seeds by using these peat pellets. These things are small enough that one seed can go in each, and then directly into the garden when they are big enough."
