"Here's a guy who loves hot peppers as much as we do! We discovered Bill Hufnagle's cooking show several years ago while flipping through the cable channels. Bill is a freewheeling food lover, pepper gardener, vegetarian and Harley rider, totally committed to getting people to play more with their food, cook healthier and ride safe. Hot peppers, Bill says, make for more fun and more flavors than any other vegetable. So take your taste buds on a culinary road trip with our hot Biker Billy pepper seed.
This jalapeno is really packed with rich flavor. Billy likes 'em best when they are flaming red and at their sweetest. Fruits are very large, measuring 2"" at the shoulder and 3-1/2"" long. Upright plants up to 24"" tall. Burpee Exclusive. Grows best in full sun. Harvest 66 days after transplanting into the garden. Sorry, state laws prohibit shipping plants to Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona, California, Nevada. Plants ship in spring at proper planting time. (

"I have planted the Biker Billy since it's release, and have found it to be one of my most prolific growers. Excellent germination rates, heavy yield, great flavor and for a Jalapeno the heat can't be beat! "

"This is one of my favorites. I have grown this for years, both from seeds and from stock. The flavor is excellent but the heat varied dramatically. The first year (grown from seeds, wet spring and summer)the green peppers were mildly spicy so I let them mature. The mature red peppers were flavorful, but sweet. Something of a surprise for an allegedly HOT pepper.
Next year, grown from stock and a drier spring and summer, those peppers lived up to their reputation. Matured a little earlier with all the flavor of last year's crop and a whole lot more heat.
This year, I'm going with live plants. I recommend it chopped in chili, minced in omlets, stir fried with pepper steak, or (my favorite) marinated with beef then skewered with onion, mushroom, and tomato. One per kabob will satisfy without overpowering if you're up for hot.
CAUTION: Do not prepare this for someone who doesn't like hot even if you're selling the flavor of the pepper (my wife, even forewarned, was not amused). "

"This will be the seventh season of planting this pepper. It has consistently been a very heavy producer with very large, very hot and very flavorful peppers. An average yeild has been 12 to 16 pounds per 6 plants. I regularly have to stake them because they are so top heavy. They grow very well in containers also and are very attractive on the deck. I usually end up planting about 20 of them and friends are amazed with the quality of them. Highly recommended."

These peppers ROCK!,
October 10, 2009 Submitted byXsquid from Weiherhammer, Germany
"Second year growing these beautiful buds of fire. First year was so-so as I only did a few plants and ran out of peppers by fall. This year I planted 17 seeds and all took, so now I have plenty of peppers for myself, my relatives, my friends, strangers on the street and have 3 one gallon ziplocks full in the freezer for emergencies this winter! I live in Germany so the only way to get these babies big and hot is to stick them in the green house and get it hot in there! (I told the wife all her the tomato plants died so I could make room for these pepper plants in the green house! Shhhhhh.) Plenty of flavor and plenty of heat. Finally got some to go 'red' on me and these had some 'sweet-heat'! Used up the last of my Biker-Billy seeds, so will try to plant my own from stock gained this year. Growth is starting to slow now so will be moving them in the house for the winter months to come. When I make salsa for the family I would normally use a 1:1 of tomato and store bought Jalapenos and the wife and kids will eat it. So far, after four batches made this summer (I make 4 qts at a time) I think the ratio is finally set for the family at 4:1 that's 4 baseball sized tomatos to 1 Biker Billy! Anything other than that, the wife and kids won't touch it, which has been fine since that's a lot of salsa just for me!! Thanks Billy and Burpee, for producing and providing a pepper that ROCKS!"

This Jalapeno sets the new standard!,
March 18, 2009 Submitted byDoll from Eastern Shore, MD
"This is the 3rd type of jalapeno I tried from Burpee. This is exactly what I was looking for.. great flavor, a good amount of heat, highly productive and hardy plants. These peppers grow larger than the Jalapeno M's averaging 4" (See pics). They are also much hotter.. I personally feel that they are exactly as hot as they should be. I use them mostly for grilling directly on the grill rack to be used on burgers with harvarti cheese.. yum! Also great for pepper jelly. Very tasty either green or red.. but pick them AFTER you see them start to get 'sun lines' (see photo) for best taste. Produces in zone 7 into late fall. Caution.. wear rubber gloves when preparing them.. the natural oils of this pepper can cause a burning irritation if you're not careful and transfer the oils to your skin or eyes. (which is normal). This is a permanent addition to my garden. Buy them and enjoy! I also recommend planting them with Burpee's red tomato trays."

"Awesome yield and great tasting. I think this should be rated with more fire. Wow!!! Being from Southern Louisiana everyone loved the bite. Perfect plant, about 3-4 feet high, very productive whole season. Puchased 3 plants but only 1 survived. Had more than we could save, use, eat, and give away."

January 29, 2008 Submitted bygabent from Northern Nevada
"Grew some plants from seeds and had a pretty decent crop. Not as big as I hoped (maybe my soil not up to par) but my wife gave the true rating for this pepper. She tells me if a pepper makes her forehead sweat then it falls into the "Best of the Best" category. I had to agree. What a great taste! Thanks Billy!"

Great yield,
January 12, 2008 Submitted bywrxhigh from New Jersey
"This was my first time growing this pepper. I grew them from burpee plants. All I can say is that these plants produced so many peppers I could not keep up with them and I had to give my harvest away to friends. The plants where producing about 12 to 20 peppers per plant at a time. I used them in salsa and made poppers with them. When the summer was ending and the plants started to slow down I did not water them for about 3 weeks and that helped to really bring on the heat of the pepper. Once again great pepper with awesome heat and once they turned red they produced a really sweet pepper with a small amount of remaining heat. I plan to grow them every year from now on. Burpee hit a home run with this pepper."

October 23, 2007 Submitted byGardenMae from New Castle County
"These seeds grow quickly and produce strong plants. My garden is in a wind tunnel, but these plants withstood what the others could not. The peppers are absolutely delicious and really are hotter than other jalapenos. I plan to plant an entire raised bed of these next year so that there will always be ripe fruit."

Peppers Didn't Make It,
September 12, 2007 Submitted bySamsMom from Kennett Square, PA
"Did not have great luck with Burpee Pepper plants last year, but thought I would try one more year. Not much sucess. Purchased several (9) pepper plants this year. Three plants were Biker Billy which never made it, as well as all the other pepper plants. All the plants, tomatoes and pepper were kind of droupy, but perked up with in a day or two. Planted in mid May, by mid-June the peppers were not doing well and had to replant with what I could find at the local nursey. Will probably go back to starting pepper from seed. By the way, the tomatoes are doing great as well as the zucchini and beans"

Lots of fruit that is ready in late Aug to September. Only negative comment is that they aren't quite as large as I was expecting."

"This plant practically took care of itself. I have never had a plant that was not only so low maintenance, but yielded an excellent and abundant crop! I used only a little natural fertilizer, some pepper spray to keep off the bugs and watered regularly. I grew these in a long, deep, container and I got over 50 peppers! And there are still more! Of course, Burpee's Seed Starting System helped get them going on the right track, but even if you do not have much of a green thumb, I have to recommend growing these peppers. Every seed I started grew into a plant (there were 4 plants total, and they quickly become very full). We've already made some great salsa! :)"

"I have been starting BBH from seed for many years now. I have found the plants to be consistent from year to year regardless of the weather conditions. I find that in my region, Boston MA., I have started them in the house on a heated pad with a grow light just around St. Patrick's day. I am not doing them from seed this year but I think I will start them a bit earlier next year, maybe a week or two. The plants always have a heavy yield. I haven't weighed the yield but if I pick them before they get too large I can get a second round sometimes a third round of peppers. The plants do get very large and have to be staked. My first year one plant actually fell over from the weight of the peppers and broke! I hope that the plants from Burpee will do just as well as when I do them from seed my self. The "heat" is sometimes extreme and sometimes it is not. Not a problem just an observation. I slice them length wise clean out the seeds, fill them with a mixture of Romano cheese, bread crumbs, and olive oil and bake in the oven. Addictive!"
