Tomato Cages - 1 Pkg. of 4

"What the pros use. Large, sturdy cages help to manage even the biggest tomato plants. These are the ones we use in our gardens at Fordhook Farm to grow big-crop varieties like Brandy Boy, Super Tasty, and Burpee's Supersteak. 4-sided cages provide the ultimate in stabilty. Great for flowers too.
Galvanized wire cages will not rust and will fold flat for easy storage. Each cage is 40"" tall.

Finally, a cage worth buying!, June 28, 2006
Submitted by Heather from Grand Blanc, MI
"These cages are by far the best I have ever used. They are strong, stable, and with the extenders (which I also love) they have the heighth that I need. I have purchased cages in the past that had to be thrown away after 1 season..or broke during first season...NOT these...they are awesome!!!"

Excellent Use for Years, May 21, 2006
Submitted by Pam In NJ from Hudson County, NJ
"I have used these cages for at least 10 years. I have always stacked one on the other and if set properly they have been sturdy and never topple. I check every few days and push any wandering branches back inside the cage. If it gets too crowded you can prune out some of the branches for more light. I plant sugar snap peas around the outside of the cage."

wire tomato cages, February 7, 2006
Submitted by Linda & Arlyce Amrhien from Willard, Ohio
"my husband is 71 yrs. old and I am 62 years old. he still puts a nice garden out...I use oxygen so I'm not able to help outside anymore ........but, with the help of him we canned over 150 jars of tomato products.......56pints alone of salsa.......The tomato cages that we bought from Burpee are amazing. they are so sturdy and held the plants up off the ground and the plants with the cages seemed to have tons more of tomatoes hanging on the vines than the plants without the cages. we have six and i just got another order from you all yesterday.......Keep up the good work BURPEE....."

Amazing quality, April 25, 2009
Submitted by JulieCaifornia
"I bought these cages and extension cages 3 years ago and it was the best money I've ever spent. In New Jersey, my tomato plants grew 9 feet tall and the cages handled it no problem! They worked so well I bought some for my father (Ranger Dave) who lives in the Northwest and he raves about them. Now I live in California and they are still in perfect shape -- NO RUST."

Easy to Use - Long Lasting, April 24, 2009
Submitted by Kimba from Sandown, NH
"These cages are great! They do the job, but more than that, they are easy to use and are made very well. They are sure to last for years. They also can be folded for easy storage during the Winter months. I will investing in more of these cages!!

The other cages I bought at the local hardware megastore didn't hold a candle to these and they were a pain in the neck to put together! You basically get what you pay for."

Not Even a Tropical Storm Budged Them!, November 25, 2008
Submitted by ChristyACB from Norfolk, Virginia
"I've probably got every kind of tomato support known to the modern gardener at home. We all know how most of those wind up...bent up with a giant tomato plant heaped on top of it.

Not this cage! This one was so good that I had a hard time deciding which of my tomato plants were worthy of this cage or had to take their chances with others.

After a full season of exposure to my tidally influenced waterside garden, with occasional salt spray, the cages looked brand new when I put them away last week.

And sturdy isn't even close to a good description. We had 2 tropical cyclones and a huge nor'easter come through and they didn't even wobble. And yes, they kept my tomato plants well propped up too. I would recommend the extenders if you're going to let your plants go to their maximum height though."

Excellent Tomato Cages!, October 14, 2008
Submitted by apoleary from Lacey, WA
"I had three tomato plants this year, and used these tomato cages on all three plants. I'm very pleased at how sturdy the cages were (so much better then the flimsy round cone ones from the local hardware store). My plants got huge (over 6 feet tall) and had dozens of tomatoes on them at all times and these cages never bent, flexed, or tipped over. I'll be using these year after year!
Oh, and the tomato cage extenders are a necessity!"

Best so far, but..., August 9, 2008
Submitted by Timothy from Southwest Oklahoma
"These cages are the best I've tried. I've used them in conjunction with the extenders. This results in a cage nearly 5.5 feet tall. Despite their apparent sturdines, they can collapse under the weight of 7-9 foot tall plants. I've used pecan branches for cross-bracing and twine tie-downs for support. This has reduced collapse calamities. I will continue to use these without a superior alternative, but I'll keep an eye out for something better..."

Need larger tomato cages., July 23, 2008
Submitted by JohnS from Ohio
"I bought the tomato cages after reading the postive reviews here. It seemed like agreat idea at first but as the plants grow, Im finding they are not large enough in diameter. When the plants grow large the cages make a rather narrow space for them to grow. I have a Super Sweet 100 plant that has completely overwhelmed the cages (I have them double stacked.) It is about 8 feet tall and has tomato laden limbs extending in an all directions about 4 feet out of the cage. It has fallen over once and I tied the cage to a fence. I have had to tie the wandering limbs to the sides of the cage to keep them off the ground. You can't even see the cage anymore. I have other plants (Better Boy, Brandywine, grape, and Black Krim) that also have completely filled up the cages (also stacked two-high), and after a point you can't keep pushing the limbs back in because it's too crowded in there. And I've had to put stakes in the ground and tie the cages to them because when the plant gets as high as two cages it is top heavy and a wind will knock it down. They should make them larger, say 20 or 24 inches per side rather than 14 and with stronger support at the bottom. I hope they will make a larger cage. Maybe the home made ones from concrete reinfoecing wire really is a better option. That said, these cages are better than having he plant spread out over the goround, and for a plant that won't get too large it might be perfect."

The Last Tomato Cages you'll buy, June 23, 2008
Submitted by Doll from Eastern Shore, MD
"I bought a set of these cages last year to try but i wanted to wait until the 2nd season of use before I left feedback. I'm not in my second growing season and these cages are awesome. They are very sturdy, fold very easy even after using them. I even left them outside all winter and they were perfectly fine this year. I just received another order of them and I plan to order another set for next year to completely replace all the 'junky' cages i accumulated the past few years. I am SO happy to finally throw away those cheap round cages from the local home and garden store. These cages set up neatly without needed additional support. ALSO... THE RED AUTOMATOR TOMATO AND PEPPER TRAYS THAT BURPEE SELLS FIT PERFECT INSIDE THESE CAGES.. and the trays work great at keeping the soil moist and weed-free around the plants. Another great feature about these is that you can fold them in a V-shape an use them in tight areas or for other vegatable that need some support but not a fully enclosed cage. Sign up for the burpee credit card and get free shipping as well :-)"

best purchase ever, May 12, 2008
Submitted by burpeepal from Dallas, GA
"I ordered the tomato cages last year after struggling to keep my tomatoes off the ground with the cheaper cages. I love these cages. They have enough prongs on the bottom to keep them from falling over and are strong enough to hold the tomato plants in place. Because they fold flat, they are easily stored. I would highly recommend them to fellow gardeners."

Best I've used, September 15, 2007
Submitted by marshathegardener
"Embarking on a trial and error process of finding the best tomato cages for my small Michigan garden, I read the other reviews before purchasing four of these cages this year. I have to say that Burpee cages are the best I've used. I had a wind storm a few weeks ago and none of my Burpee cages tipped over nor did any of my plants (in Burpee cages) suffer any wind damage. I cannot say that for the other cages I bought from local garden centers- a pricey cage from a garden center tipped over, almost destroying the entire plant. My only regret is that I did not buy the extenders. There's always next season :) My plants in Burpee cages did not suffer wilt like the plants in the other cages--I attribute this to better air circulation due to cage construction."
