"Large, thick, white stalks with slight bulbs at base. Shanks up to 8 in. long and 2 in. in diameter. Mild onion flavor is delicious in soups and stews. Ready to harvest about 110 days after sowing. GARDEN HINTS: Draw soil up around plants as they elongate to blanch stems and improve quality. Seeds can be started indoors 6-10 weeks before outdoor planting time. Before transfer to garden, accustom to outdoor conditions by moving to a sheltered area outside for a week."
