Product Reviews

Pole Bean Kentucky Blue - 1 Pkt. (2 oz.)

"Pole beans yield much longer than bush beans, right up to frost. Plant 4-6"" apart at the base of poles, trellis, a fence or our Bean Tower. 2 oz. of seed per pack, enough for 20' of row or 10-16 poles, 1 lb. (16 oz.) for 80-128 poles or 160'.

Kentucky Blue. 65 days. All-America Winner. Combines the excellence of the all-time greatest pole beans, Kentucky Wonder and Blue Lake. You get big crops of sweet and always stringless pods, straight and 7"" long. A heavy yielder for many weeks. Sun."

poor quality, September 15, 2008
Submitted by markh from Ohio
"I have read the other reviews and wonder if I was shipped the wrong seed. My beans grew great. The plants were strong and produced well. The problem was that the beans were horribly stringy. I harvested them early to see if this would help but it did not. These beans are NOT stringless as advertised. My family would not eat them due to the tough strings on the beans. I will not order these again."

MAYBE NEXT YEAR, August 19, 2007

"I always use burpee seeds for all my vegetables. Always have excellence results. However, This year my kentucky blue seeds did not produce. I purchased a 2 oz. packet only to have 5 or 6 plants to grow a few inches. " I will try again next year "
Now on the other hand, With the same purchase, I planted kentucky wonder. These plants emerged fast and are very strong productive plants. I think the kentucky wonder should be giving the " ALL-AMERICA AWARD ".
I grow my peas and beans in raised gardens on netting. This year my kentucky wonder plants tower well above my 7' netting.

"I grow these on a 6 foot chain link fence, and they produce like crazy for weeks and weeks. I have to pick them every 2-3 days just to keep up! I have had to do minimal maintenance, just watering during dry spells.
A lotta bang for the buck, in my opinion."

"I've always grown pole beans of some sort, the last few years purple king or peacock.
This year after readig about KY Blue I decided to try it and oh my gosh !

My soil is average or worse, I use a drip irrigation system and little balanced fertilizer nothing special and these things are going insane.

I've got about 25' of chicken wire 2 rows high (7' or so above the ground) and these vines have already reached the top and I have several feet hanging over !!! Going to have to do a teepee with twine next year something with at least 10' for the vines to run.

The taste is every bit as good as ky wonder, they are stringless and tender AND the yield is insane.

Two 25' rows back to back on this same fence have been yielding at least 1/3 of a plastic grocery bag every 3 days or so."

"I have purchase my vegetable seeds from the web site for a couple of years now and have never had a problem with anything, except this purchase. My plants never grew more that 2", and never produced anything. I have purchased bush beans in the past with excellent results. I would stick with the bush bean"
