Cantaloupe Ambrosia Hybrid - 1 Pkt. (30 seeds)

"Hybrid Cantaloupe. 86 days. Our top-selling cantaloupe for over 20 years because it tastes so very good, luscious, extra-sweet, and juicy with a delectable aroma. Thick, firm, flesh is delicious right down to the rind. The 6"" melons average 5 lbs. each. Vines are resistant to powdery mildew and yield bumper crops. Burpee Bred. Sun."

Wonderful taste!, September 28, 2009
Submitted by Alwaysroses from West Virginia
"I've loved Ambrosia for a long time. All the great reviews are earned. The flesh is melting and very sweet as well as aromatic. It is normally a prolific plant, but this year the vines were late setting fruit and died before the few melons could get ripe. I only got 5 melons out of 5 plants, which is way lower than normal. Hence the 4 star rating. I will plant Ambrosia again next year and hope that this year was just a fluke. We did have a bad growing season. Ambrosia is well worth growing!"

Excellent taste and producer, September 2, 2009
Submitted by Sendai from Marietta, GA
"This melon has been producing melons all summer. I still have two large melons on a group of plants and another patch is producing five new melons. It is now September in Atlanta. The taste is excellent. I pick the melons right after they turn beige/brown. Normally, the stem will just fall off. The melons are ripe and need to be eaten shortly thereafter. My biggest melon was 8 pounds with the average between 6 to 8 pounds."

Good Taste, August 15, 2009
Submitted by gardenkk from Pa
"These cantaloupes are definitely overall winners. Although I didn't get a surplus of fruits, the ones i did get were sweet, tender, and delicious. To me, ambrosia hybrid melons are what defines summer itself. They are quite small, but their lack of weight is made up for with their sweet, succulent taste. These are the best tasting small melons i have ever tried and will ever try. I had the vines grow up a fence, and it worked perfectly because the ripening melons only got to about three pounds. The ambrosia hybrid is the best cantaloupe, despite small size. My entire family loved them! Thank you burpee for providing such a tasteful melon."

Family Loves these Melons!, June 14, 2009
Submitted by Squelch from Katy, TX
"I put a couple of these melons in my earthbox with some summper squash and Wow are they ever producing. We had our first melon this morning and it was gone. On 2 other plants I have 10 more melons in varying stages of ripening. I can smell the cantalope in the kitchen even before it is cut. So juicy and sweet, we threw the storebought melons in the trash. Would definitely recommend!"

Top Cantaloupe, December 11, 2008
Submitted by GardenGuyCO from Western Colorado
"I've grown Ambrosia in NC and in Western CO and found nothing to match it in either location. Flavor is outstanding and it is a heavy producer, easily out producing a number of other varieties over the years. This is now the only cantaloupe I plant."

Good Melon, September 6, 2008

"Great tasting melons, however, the plants died prior to melons being ripe (this may be due to the wet summer we have had). The few that have ripened are excellent."

best cantelope ever, September 6, 2008
Submitted by beeman from Woodland
"If you can find a better cantelope than ambrosia, let me know. For size, taste, vigor, and being prolific, you can't beat this melon. I keep trying four to five different melons each year trying to find one better than Ambrosia, but haven't found one yet."

Great Cantaloupe, April 19, 2008
Submitted by batch from Solana Beach, CA
"This is the best performing cantaloupe we have found in the last 20 years for our cool long season coastal Southern California location. It has been a consistant performer for the last 15 years and has the best flavor and yield of all we have tried. We usually get a second and sometimes third flush of melons into October."

"I grew this for the first time last year. It was very productive. Easy to grow, nothing seems to bother it, it just keeps growing. Takes the Kansas heat and wind very well. You won't believe how good this melon tastes."

"These canteloupes are so good! They appear to be disease resistant--the leaves continue to look very healthy and new melons appear daily.
I work to improve my soil every year and the soil is very good. I use soaker hoses to avoid excess water on the leaves and fruit. I knew the vines would take a lot of space, but they took more than I thought. They are worth making room for!!
It is very easy to tell when they are ripe. A little pressure on the stem and the melon comes right off. They smell great and taste even better. We will grow these next year!
I'm still looking for just the right watermelon to grow in Virginia in a medium sized garden."

"I use the "cheater's method" of simply dumping a couple of bags of composted manure plus one of topsoil onto the lawn. Works well. Strong, healthy plants. REALLY tasty fruit. Seems almost fool-proof."

"I have been growing this variety for four years now and it has never disapointed me. It consistantly produces 4 or 5 lbs melons that are very uniform. After eating one of these you'll never want to buy a store bought canteloupe again. The plant produces large healthy looking leaves and vines. The melons do not mature at the same time but they all end up being close to the same size. These melons like other melons appreciate well worked soil with plenty of organic matter and a layer of manure about 10" down. Ambrosia canteloupes are fruit of the gods."
