"Slice it, shred it, love it. This gloriously sweet carrot is the richest, most intense purple. We love to make a cool summer carrot salad of yellow, orange and purple varieties, delicious and a treat for the eyes. Carrot aficionados (and who isn't) will delight in this unique, yet tasty, variety with its purple skin and light yellow core. 65-70 days."

Good first try,
September 4, 2009 Submitted byKendra from Plainfield, IL
"This was the first year we had a garden and my husband just put all the seeds in a line. They were all very close to eachother so most were small. We had a few get to good size, but none of them were colored quite like in the picture. The very outside was purple colored, but once you peeled them, the color was gone. I think if they had been spaced out a bit more and left to grow a little longer they would have been the nice color shown. They had good taste and made nice snacks."

Purple Dragon Carrots,
July 31, 2008 Submitted byLionking from Queens, NY
"This breed of carrots caught my eye because of the unusual color. It surprised me how well they grew in my garden even though my soil is slightly sandy. When I pulled the first ones from the ground the wonderful sweet carrot smell was delightful. The taste when cooked is also sweet and strong and will overpower any lesser flavored vegetable. And they're a great conversation starter with the deep purple encircling the bright orange centers."

Not edible,
July 20, 2008 Submitted byCPearce from Salt Lake City, UT
"I started growing these in April and they ended up growing well, but they weren't edible. The carrots were so hard it was like eating a piece of wood. They never did get very big either, the roots are around 3-4" in length. Anyone know why this would be?"

Purple Carrot is Awesome,
August 10, 2007 Submitted byErnie from Baltimore. MD
"This carrot is easy to grow, tasty, and has a beautiful color. It is just as easy to grow as other carrots and I love the color it is actually very bright color. (The picture that Burpee provides is not misleading and that is what the carrot's color really is) I would recommend this carrot to anybody looking for something unusual to grow."

"I've grown these the past few years and again this year. They're easy to grow, fairly low maintenance, and the taste is excellent. They're gorgeous in cole slaw or a regular green salad too. They were also a HUGE hit with the preschoolers who had never seen a purple carrot before."
