Tomato Patio Princess Hybrid- Packet (30 seeds)

"Burpee Exclusive.
Invite these petite plants onto your patio and get ready to enjoy a bountiful supply of the tastiest little tomatoes ever. She's just the right size for small pots, while a large tub can fit 2-3 plants. 'Patio Princess' fruits very heavily, too- each 2' plant produces as many 2 1/2-3"" fruits as a tomato twice its size.
65-68 days.
Sorry, plants CANNOT be sent to AK, AZ, CA, HI, or NV.
Plants ship in spring at proper planting time. ( click here for shipping schedule ) "

Great Bush Tomato, September 20, 2009
Submitted by grandpasgarden from Wooster, OH
"Like Koshki I don't understand the negative reviews. Perfect size for container gardening. The maximum height of my plants reached 24 inches. I had to stake mine but only because there were so many tomatoes on the plant at one time! I plan on buying more next year."

(Nearly) worst tomato ever, August 11, 2009
Submitted by mda06
"I have a small garden which makes it hard to rotate crops and have had problems with tomato blight so I thought I would try growing some patio style tomatoes in containers. I had high hopes for the Patio Princess. The plants were beautiful - dark green and very healthy looking. The plants were loaded with fruit. So far so good. As the fruit ripened to perfect blemish free, bright red specimens, (no blossem end rot as I had mixed in a little lime in the soil) I had high hopes. But when I tasted the fruits of my labor I was extremely disappointed. Absolutely no taste-no better than store bought in the middle of winter. Texture was very firm with no juiciness and sort of pale colored. I let subsequent fruits stay on the vines for many days after they turned bright red. It made no difference - the same tasteless result. Would definitely not recommend to anyone. I tried a different patio style tomato last year with similar results. Is it not possible to come up with a good tasting patio tomato??"

Very happy with the Princess, February 9, 2009
Submitted by Koshki from Southeastern Michigan
"I'm surprised at the negative reviews this has received. The only real problem I had with the Princess plants is that they needed a cage to support them! I'll use a short cage (like for peonies) this year to keep them off the ground. They were prolific, and I was quite happy with the fruit. I put three plants each in two pots last summer, and I think I'll plant a third pot this year. They were still sprouting new shoots and sending up blossoms in November! They are not big beefsteak or heirloom tomatoes, but they serve a very nice role in my garden."

Oh my, this is a great little plant!, October 18, 2008
Submitted by RachelInCali from Pleasanton, CA
"The tomatoes have great flavor, and over all the plant produced about three times as many fruits as did my others, which were three times as big! Also, the bugs didn't like to eat this one as much as the other tomatoes. Hmm...well, I'm absolutely growing this one again next year!"

Try a different determinate for pots, September 20, 2008
Submitted by Timothy from Southwest Oklahoma
"The only positive I found to this plant is that its self restricting size helps reduce water needs. For potted plants this is handy. One year I grew Better Boys in pots and had to water them 3 times a day in the 100+ heat. Other than that, this plant offers no benefits.
These tomatoes tasted the closest to store bought tomatoes among all home grown tomatoes I've ever grown. The plants were susceptible to disease and temperature extremes. The yields were low. When production tapered off, I planted a second round to see if the plants were really this bad. The second batch was identically bad.
I think these were not meant for extreme weather zones."

Disappointed, August 13, 2008
Submitted by Maude from Chicago, IL
"The plants are beautiful and very sturdy, so I had high hopes for the tomatoes, but they have turned out to be a big disappointment. First of all a lot of the fruit had blossom end rot. Now as I am getting what appears to be ripe fruit, the insides do not appear ripe and are tasteless. I have never grown tomatoes before that are completely ripe looking on the outside but when you cut into them are white. We grew these plants last year and they were very good- what happened?"

Perfect Container Tomato, July 21, 2008
Submitted by Yonatan from Jersey Shore
"If you are in an apartment or town house and have to resort to container gardening, this is a one tomato I would recommend. The tomatoes are small (about 2" in diameter maximum), but if you use a 12" diameter pot, expect a bumper crops of these meaty little guys. I have one each in 8", 10", and 12" pots, and the largest pot produced like a fiend and early!"

This tomato was a disaster, July 11, 2008
Submitted by Starmack from Howe, Texas
"In the past I have had great success with Burpee tomato seeds. This year I tried Patio Princess hoping they would work well for my container garden. The three plants produced lots of little green tomatoes, all of which ended up with blossom end rot. None of my other tomato plants had this problem. In the past I have grown many tomatoes from seed using Burpee seeds - "Bush Early Girl", "Bucks County Hybrid", "Sweet Baby Girl" to name a few - and all have performed really well. Not Patio Princess. I will not be planting this variety again."

I'm Disappointed, March 17, 2008
Submitted by mayo from Maryland
"I bought these last year hoping to have another outlet to grow my tomatoes. I have a small garden for the larger plants (4'x 8') and wanted to try the planter kind. I got very little produce of very small fruit. These plants did not do well on my deck. I will not spend the money to try them again."

No taste!, January 13, 2008
Submitted by busybee
"I bought these plants last year. Yes, the tomatoes were the perfect size and blemish free. However, the tomatoes had very little taste. I also grew cherry tomatoes which were very sweet and delicious. I won't be buying these again. Burpee, please work on improving the taste of Patio Princess."

GREEN, December 28, 2007
Submitted by BELLSOUTH from Hollywood, FL
"I live in South Florida, and this image was snapped on December 28, 2007. Everything you are looking at, or reading about, was planted from Burpee seeds on October 15, 2007 - just seeds. All of the plants (Patio Princess Hybrid (7 plants), plus Eggplant, Cucumber, Radish, Cherry Tomatoes, Green Bell Pepper, Snap Peas and Loose Leaf Lettuce, were started on my kitchen window sill, and each plant sprouted in 7 - 11 days, then outdoors where it is sunny and warm.
Now, slightly more than 2 months from seed starting, I have a thriving, healthy, and productive patio garden that in the main is all showing signs of healthy growth. For the Patio Princess Hybrid, I used 3 to 5 gallon plastic pots, and the soil is a lightweight potting soil containing fertilizer, perlite, vermiculite, water retaining granules, and even when thoroughly soaked, the total weight of the pot and plant is negligible. My secret consists of two, NO make that 4 Burpee Products. First, the SEED....second, the Seaweed Formula added to my weekly fertilizing, third, the Burpee Tomato and Vegetable Hormone Blossom Spray which is incredible. Last, every two weeks I add the "CIDE" family to my watering, namely, Pesticide, Insecticide, Fungicide and finally Miticide, all contained in one Burpee Product. Combining these four elements with a regular evening watering schedule, these plants, these loving creatures of Nature are almost human....they show that they are all connected to LIFE. I have more seeds to sow, just received them from Burpee, Kale, Beets, Rutabaga, a different strain of Tomato, and Broccoli. In two months, all of my new plants will be ready for harvest. This hobby for me, and I am retired, is the most enjoyable undertaking I've ever become involved with....I KID YOU NOT! I strongly suggest that you try the Patio Princess Hybrid Tomato for your porch, patio, garden and see for yourself. As the blossoms sprout, I've noticed an influx of Butterflies on my porch - they are so beautiful......this is totally a miracle that simply came out of a packet of Burpee Seeds."

Beautiful plants, fruits, September 18, 2007
Submitted by Smitty
"I have plants in 2 gallon containers. Compact plants, beautiful deep green foliage, delicious 2" fruits, very productive for such a small plant! Cons: plant is sensitive to calcium levels in soil, lots of blossom end rot. Products like Rot-Stop helped. I will definitely plant again next year making sure I use a calcium rich soil."

GREAT Tomatoes, June 29, 2007
Submitted by Freida from Jackson, MS
"These tomatoes are the best! I have them in two self-watering containers and am using red mulch. Compared to my other tomato plants the Patio Princess' leaves are a dark green and no pests are attacking them. In previous years I would get mixed results regarding production, but these babies just won't quit. Every day I am picking tomatoes. Will definitely purchase more next year - may even get another self-watering container and try some other Burpee tomatoes. Good work guys!"

"I was very pleased with everything about these tomatoes. The plants were very sturdy when they arrived and performed wonderfully once transplanted. I'm only sorry I did not take pictures of their progress. I will definitely buy more next season. If I had a sunny location in the house, I would grow them out of season!"

And since I dont have a big garden I was wondering how to grow such tomatoes and I got a good choice of growing this tomato from live chat service of burpee. Iam exciting to see the growth and beautiful tomatoes in my hanging garden."
