High praise!,
February 25, 2006 Submitted byBorn2Garden from Buffalo, NY
"I'm glowing because these growing cubes are fantastic, fun, and absolutely for everyone! My flower seeds are flourishing, plus their germination time was faster than ever. The special soil blend is holding more water and offering better air circulation, exactly as claimed, which makes them a true 5 leaf Burpee product and a wonderful advancement for seed starting! "

Finally!,
August 9, 2009 Submitted byGuerrillaGardener from Manhattan, KS
"Finally a seed starting product that is easy and works really well. Instead of dreading the beginning of the gardening season, with messy starting mix and pots, I can now enjoy the process of getting my plants started. My only problem with these was that I didn't initially realize that they were directional; the flat side must go down for them to expand properly. Once I figured that out, they were like magic."

Sweet!,
April 14, 2009 Submitted byBeautifulBlossom from Midwest
"I used these when they came with my Ultimate Growing Kit. I had sprouts the same day and some as tall as 7 inches on the 6th day! I was hoping they were available separately so I could reuse the system next year. I'm delighted!

bad batch,
April 10, 2009 Submitted byHillCountryGarden from Hays Co., TX
"I had heard great things about these, but this time I was disappointed. They eventually expanded but, it took forever. I set my containers in a bucket with water overnight and they were expanded by morning."

What Happened?,
March 26, 2009 Submitted byQueensGardener from Astoria
"I have been using this product for several years with great success. This year's batch did not expand as advertised. They sit in the warm water and stay dry and hard. I have to break up the cubes with my fingers into little pieces. Like the previous reviewer, I am disappointed in their performance. Luckily, I had some of the round ones left over from last year. What a difference! Add warm water and they (the round ones) puff up immediately-light and fluffy. What happened? Did I get a bad batch?"

Growing?,
March 14, 2009 Submitted byBwaltdog from Springfield Mass
"I did not like these cubes. They did not expand as advertised. I had to sit them in hot water for 15 minutes and then use a spoon to place them in the containers. I followed the instructions, but after following them, the cubes still failed to expand. Use loose milled Sphagnum Moss, it is a little messy but the germination is explosive, and no damp off. Follow the instructions and it works great! The Picture I have attached is Burpee seeds germinating with the loose Sphagnum Moss after 6 days. I got alot of Damping off(60%-70%) with the cubes. I started all over!"

Nice seed-starting soil ... once the cubes expand,
April 22, 2008 Submitted bySoupAddict from Cincinnati, OH
"I have to admit I was on the fence about these things for a while, but in the end, they won me over. It could just have been a bum batch, but the cubes seemed to take forever to expand (unlike the similary concepted peat pellets, which pop up right away). The process was so frustrating, I gave up the individual container approach, and instead put several in one cup and soaked them in hot water, walking away for a while to let them do their thing. Then, later, I spooned the expanded mixture into their various pots. This is what prevents me from giving the product 5 stars -- it's definitely not as convenient as pouring seed starting mix out of the bag (or using the aforementioned peat pellets, which I love). The resulting soil, however, was not disappointing. My seedlings love it, even cranky-pants Basil with its infamous low germination rate. My marigolds are ready to bloom, and it's only April. I *will* try a new batch of these cubes again next year, especially since the other reviewers had such positive experiences with them."

Wins head to head against miracle gro,
April 12, 2008 Submitted byTesedik from Blue Bell, PA
"This year I planted Basil and Tomato seeds in growing cubes, Miracle Gro Seed Starter and Burpees Tomato formula to see which would be best. Almost all the seeds planted in the cube mix sprouted sooner and grew faster. 90% of the seeds planted in the Tomato formula gew but one to three days later. Only 65% of the ones planted in the miracle gro seed starter sprouted at all."

Worth Every Penny,
March 22, 2007 Submitted bySt9090
"Last year I ran an experiment to compare the Burpee Grow Cubes to my regular peat starter cubes. I split my crop in half. The Burpee cubes far outperformed regular peat in both time to germinate, germination rate, and rate of seedling growth."

"I bought the super growing cubes locally and started my marigolds and within 2 days they had already began to grow. Not only was I very impressed but shocked, it usualy takes at least 5 days before I see any germination of my marigold seeds. I plan on buying more and starting my tomatoes with this prouduct as well. Thank you for a reliable product. One I will use in many years to come."
