"Just 65 days. One of summer's earliest and tastiest arrivals. The many fuzzy golden pods are bursting with three delicious seeds. Enjoy lightly steamed, for a snappy, happy snack. Smooth, sweet, nutty taste and chewy texture. Plant the short, prolific bushes close together for all-summer snacking. Ht: 12-14"". "

Didn't germinate,
June 8, 2009 Submitted bynjm1958 from Cape Cod, MA
"I've planted this variety 3 years in a row in the same garden, under the same conditions. The last two years I had good germination, ok yield but this year not a single seed came up. I'm going to order more and try again, but was certainly disappointed."

Lots of soybeans :),
May 27, 2009 Submitted byFun4Kids from Southeast Texas
"We were very pleased with the soybeans. This was our first year to ever try growing any. Nearly every seed we planted grew into plants. Since then, thay have produced lots of soybeans. We pick a colander full about every 3 days. The only drawback for us has been that we get very few 3-bean per pods. The majority have been 2 and 1-beans per pod. Other than that, they produce well, taste great, and hold up well against the heat and the insects. We will definitely buy these and plant in our garden for next year :)"

Great flavor, had slight germination problem,
August 23, 2008 Submitted byBackwaterbassn from Hastings, MN
"We just picked and ate a meal's worth - great flavor! I planted one 8' row and only 5' came up the first time. I replanted the remaining 3' and they all came up. Aphids liked them too but my kids and I relocated several dozen asian beetle adults and larvae onto the edamame and they ate most of the aphids."

pretty good yeild if you can beat the beatles,
August 20, 2008 Submitted bymeesh from Northern IN
"I had each seed come up that I planted and was thrilled with that. My plants grew quickly and heartily in my meager container garden, I was even more thrilled with that. It was all going fine until the beatles came and devoured all the leaves of my green pearls. The beatles didn't seem to effect the beans at least, thankfully. I feel that if I knew of a type of non-chemical pesticide I could have used on them I would have been much more satisfied. Any suggestions to keep away pests??"

Better than I'd hoped,
July 31, 2008 Submitted byAppalachianDoc from Middle South
"I direct sowed the Green Pearls seed, and got at least 70% germination. The plants have been doing well, and I've gotten pods with one, two, or three seeds each. The taste of the soybeans is better than I'd hoped for, and they're pretty, too. I recommend trying them even though the boiling before shelling is more time consuming preparation than most beans."

Tricky but Worth It!,
July 15, 2008 Submitted byChristyACB from Norfolk, Virginia
"My experience with these seeds has been neither as good nor as bad as it seems to have been with other reviewers. I use the Square Foot Gardening Method so each area is easy to record and test.
I started the first test batch of these way too early, when the nights were still too cool and the plants really struggled along and had a poor germination rate. Eventually I had to pull them up.
My second batch I planted once late spring brought warm nights and very hot days. I got about a 70% germination rate, even though I really do baby seeds in SFG, but once they did germinate, they were robust and well grown plants.
Each of my pods has had 2 beans in it. Never three and never 1...only 2. I used the first pickings just last week for fresh Edamame. The flavor was so far superior to the frozen ones that we get at restaurants that we were actually shocked! Wonderful bean...it just needs to have the right temperature and can't be rushed."

Roasted Soybeans,
June 3, 2008 Submitted byJeanWK from Elkton, SD
"I picked the dried soybeans in October and roasted them with garlic and salt. They were delicious! There are recipes and directions online--it took many hours at a low temperature. I am growing more this year and just hope I have more time to shell them--very tedious!"

Good reliable seed,
April 19, 2008 Submitted byDarlene from Tell City, Indiana
"I purchased the Green Pearl soybean seed last spring and had nearly 100% germination. The plants developed very nicely. Soon after the pods began to fill, the deer ate all of them, so I cannot comment on taste. However, the seed performance was very good. I used a hand spade to dig a long row about 2 inches deep, then spaced the seed in the groove as directed. I covered the seed with about 2 inches of Miracle Grow potting soil and patted the soil down. I had germination in about 5 days. The plants developed well. I think it is important to wait to plant seed until you have regular warm nights. I planted between the 7th and 10th of May. Also, I would not cover the seed with heavy soil over top - I would use potting soil. My soil underneath is heavy clay and these plants did well."

soybean seeds,
July 23, 2007 Submitted byhlthnut
"I was told that soybeans can't be grown in CT. Well, I have proven growers wrong because I have the most beautiful soybean crop. Just need to keep the japanese beetles off. I have soybeans everywhere. I highly recommend these seeds and will plant them next year too. I planted the seeds in the garden 1st week of May. I have nice pods that will probably be ready to pick in August."

The Kids Starved Last Year,
February 20, 2007 Submitted byBlahBlah
Plant performance:

"Planted these (Green Pearls ) and the Shiratori variety last year. The Green Pearls were 0 for 40, not a single plant came up. Planted 20 early at recommended depth and another 20 at much warmer soil temps and shallower. Maybe 4 seeds actually germinated, but immediately stunted. Based on othe reviews, whole batch was suspect.
Shiratori were fine, about 75% came up and yields/taste were fine."

"Experienced same problems others have had with germination. Sowed directly into soil, only about 10-20 % germinated, a lot of wasted space in the garden. Grew them three years ago and they were amazing, delicious and very prolific. Don't know what happend, even tried two packs with no luck."

"I too had problems with germination, 2 years in a row. Last year I planted 45 seeds of this variety and another variety about 2 weeks after last frost (hoping that warm soil would help). Not ever one germinated. So I resorted to my failsafe method which I use for several different types of vegetables: I put the seeds in a wet paper towel and then in a plastic bag and keep it on the kitchen counter. Check daily and plant gently when they have sprouted. I will use this method every year. I read that the expected germination rate for soybeans is generally only 80%. I think I got better than that but I only plant those that have sprouted so I don't get any wasted space in the garden! I would say I ended up with a good yield and the taste was good, both fresh and frozen."

"I had to sow these seeds three times just to get a full row. Actually, a nearly-full row. After I got the plants to come up, they still struggled and disappointed. I'm not the best green-thumb around, for sure, but I don't think these beans' lackluster performance can be entirely blamed on the gardener. The yield was small and I got a lot of pods with only one bean instead of the advertised three beans per pod. Nitpicking? Nah, I just wanted the loads of edamame that were promised. <sniff> Next year I'll try the other variety, maybe."
